My husband and I are/were members at the Clayton location of Peak Fitness, and let me tell you we've had our fair share of complaints. Our contract was up in April. We had closed our bank account that it was drafted from after the last payment was drafted because we had switched banks prior to our contract being up and kept that one account open soley for that draft until the contract expired. In May, I receieved a letter from ABC Financial whom handles the payments for Peak. Nobody informed us that our contract renewed automatically after April, and no one informed us that we had to submit a 60 WRITTEN notice to cancel our membership. I had the student rate of $25/month and it shot up to $35/month after April. They also are charging me $35 for not sending in my updated information and $19.50/month for "Fees". While they explain that our membership will be terminated this August, according to ABC, we are responsible for all monies incurred after April. I feel that we should not have to pay. The manager at Peak currently, Eric, informed me that my account with them is 60 days past due and that I should only be responsible for that amount. ABC Financial has given me 3 different totals of what I owe; $222, $162, and $280! Because ABC works for Peak, I was told by representative Britney via phone that if someone (she gave me a list of names) would contact her, she would honor the 60 days past due amount and not a penny more. I presented Eric with this information and he laughed and said that all those names were from Corporate and that they would not do anything about it. He called them "Assholes". He said that they would stand by the contract. The BBB website lists NUMEROUS complaints against Peak. I informed Eric that I was prepared to make a BIG stink over this. I'm making flyers to inform the members and future-would-be members of the incompetence and negligence of this fitness club. I am also going to file a complaint with the Attorney General, as he is already handling complaints against them for the Knightdale branch. I would also like to include your information about the unsanitary conditions of the gym in my flyer, with your permission. I think people have the right to know about their deceitful business practices. They won't get $200+ from us. Please contact me. If more people stand up to places like this, we can accomplish something.
